Recommendations from Customers Are the Best Marketing Messages

Post Date: April 20th, 2011

Given the amount of competition on the internet for product sales, people are turning to recommendations/reviews to help make their buying decisions. is a leading email marketing provider who has this to say:

Customer reviews are the online tool that has the most significant impact on buying behavior. (source: PowerReviews/e-tailing group’s Social Shopping Study)

  • 83% of all holiday shoppers are influenced by customer reviews. (source: Channel Advisor’s Consumer Shopping Habits Survey)
  • 64% of shoppers consistently read reviews always or most of the time before making a purchase decision. (source: PowerReviews/e-tailing group’s Social Shopping Study)
  • 49% of consumers would leave a website when conducting product research if it lacks customer reviews. (source: PowerReviews/e-tailing group’s Social Shopping Study)
  • 78% of people trust consumer recommendations; 14% of people trust ads. (source: Nielsen’s Global Trust in Advertising Survey)

These statistics cannot be denied, and the evidence is pointing to the fact that people will be relying on reviews more and more to help make buying decisions.

There are literally hundreds of review sites such as Google Places, Kudzu, Yellow Pages, Foursquare and Yelp that give people the opportunity to post a review about a product or service.

Given these stats it would be a wise marketing strategy to ask your customers to write a review for your company.  You could post a business profile on any of the directory sites listed above, and give your customers the link to your profile.

It is always wise to monitor the internet for negative reviews so you can respond to them immediately.  It's as easy as creating a Google alert for your company name.  Google will notify you anytime your company name is mentioned on the internet.

Get Social With Dona

Post Date: April 7th, 2011

Welcome to Get Social With Dona's Blog!

This blog will focus on what's happening in the world of social media.  I'll be reviewing or commenting on the latest news in social media and giving you helpful hints on how to maximize your Facebook and Twitter presence.

Some social media techniques work and some don't.  For instance, some people will tweet 10 times a day, which is fine, unless those 10 tweets are posted all at once.  Whenever I have a suggestion on how to improve a strategy, I'll let you know here.

Social networking, I believe, is a living entity.  It changes and evolves like other organisms.  Facebook has made an overhaul of the fanpage platform in the last few weeks, changing how people create and interact with fanpages.  Some of these changes are definitely for the better.  The point being, Twitter and Facebook make periodic updates to their foundation, and keeping up with these changes can be a chore.

I invite you to "Like" my fanpage at to stay on top of the latest social media news.
